Manus ORiordan with Connolly Column Flag
Manus ORiordan is holding the Flag of The International Brigade that went to fight in the Spanish Civil War in 1936 in the Republican cause against Franco.
This holds special significance for Manus as his father Michael ORiordan was one of those driven to join the International Brigade.
Manus is holding the flag by the grave of Frank Ryan who was leader of the Connolly Column. This Irishman died at Dresden in 1944 in WW II.
Manus ORiordan, seventy-five years later is the Keeper of the Flame.
